NFL Notes: Week 6, The Bizarro Week

| Discuss (1)

Just when we thought we were figuring out who the contenders were and who the door mats were...this happened:

Rams 19, Redskins 17
Cardinals 30, Cowboys 24
Falcons 22, Bears 20
Tampa Bay 27, Panthers 3
Browns 35, Giants 14

One week shouldn't make everyone change their minds, but maybe the NFC East was slightly over-valued? I know Eli Manning played well down the stretch through the Super Bowl and it carried over to the first few weeks of this season...but this is the same guy that hadn't lived up to expectations through the first four and a half years of his career.
And the Redskins are relying on Jason Campbell to lead them to the playoffs. I'm just saying maybe the stock on those two was a little inflated. The Cowboys lost to the Cardinals and in the process, lost Tony Romo and Felix Jones for a month with a broken pinky and partially torn hamstring respectively.
They also lost Adam 'Pacman' Jones for at least four games after he was suspended by Roger Goodell following an altercation with his own bodyguard in a hotel last week. The altercation was apparently alcohol fueled.
The Eagles won, but the Niners had them on the ropes until J.T. O'Sullivan turned into J.T. O'Sullivan and gave the game away. So how good is the NFC West? We'll see how all of these teams bounce back after an abysmal week six.

The San Francisco 49ers continued their frustrating ways, making big plays, not being able to make stops on third down and imploding at the worst possible times. O'Sullivan still has potential. I swear he does.
That said, his penchant for throwing back breaking picks is wearing on me. I know he thinks of himself as a gunslinger. I know that he has a lot of confidence in himself and his arm. But maybe a guy who has played for seven teams at age 28 and played college ball at UC Davis should play a little more conservatively. Just a thought.
On the bright side, Frank Gore looks rejuvenated and is getting more touches than most people anticipated considering the Niners are running Martz' offense, albeit poorly.

The Raiders are still bad. They got pummeled 34-3 by the New Orleans Saints, who aren't exactly known for their ferocious defense. Since there isn't much else to add about the Raiders at this point, I'd like to just ask a question: Does anyone else think that Pacman Jones would be a "perfect fit" in Oakland? Someone get Al Davis on the phone. I know he is always near a phone, just in case he needs to call in the next play for the team during games.

To try to turn things a round, Jerry Jones and his surgically altered face traded for Lions wide receiver Roy Williams before the trade deadline. I didn't really think scoring points was the Cowboys problem. And I certainly didn't think their passing game was deficient. However, they now have another weapon for Tony Rom-...I mean Brad Johnson to throw to. And they have two players with the same name now, which is kind of weird.

The Tennessee Titans are undefeated and no one knows how to react. Looks like Jeff Fisher knows what he he's doing down there. The team is pretty much totally remade from the one that made it to the super bowl (and came within a yard of winning) that featured Steve McNair and Eddie George.
Assuming Kerry Collins doesn't fall off the wagon, we could be looking at a legitimate Super Bowl contender with Chris Johnson and LenDale as the lightning and thunder, respectively and a defense that is just about air tight.

No one expected the NFC East to lose the games they did last week, but don't count them out as the strongest division in the NFL. They still have a better chance to win every week than their opponent.

That being said, Jason Campbell in the playoffs? Sounds weird. The Cowboys are in a world of hurt, literally and figuratively. Combine the injuries to Romo and Jones with the drama of Pacman and the T.O.-Williams combo and you've got what I like to call a "hot mess". Oh, and they gave up their future draft picks - like they're not going to need young talent or something. Good luck getting to the playoffs, Dallas.

The 49ers keep showing they have potential, then they show how quickly they can give the game away. I'm sticking by J.T. and the offense with Martz around. They need to put together longer drives and give the defense a rest if they want to win. The defense can't play 40 minutes a game! They can't continue to give up 30+ points either.

The Raiders are horrible and will be horrible until Al Davis dies (because he's not selling the team). End of story.

Go Titans Defense! I own them on both of my fantasy teams.
